Practical arrangements

You need to bring suitable equipment for the classes you attend. A sea kayak with waterproof bulkheads, good clothing for 12-19 °C waters, a spraydeck and a paddle, a buoyancy aid (pfd) and a helmet if you attend classes in waves or rough water. Some of these things can be rented on site but have to be reserved beforehand, see below! Neither you nor your equipment are insured by HSKG during the event, and we recommend that you take out an insurance.

Finding the Gathering is easy: Just drive straight trough Hanko until the road ends and you are there (the signs say Ulkosatama)! HSKG will allocate parking spaces. The car parks are situated close to the water front and the activities area. You can leave your equipment at about 40 meters from the water if needed. Observe the parking directions as advised at the entrance.

There will be a board providing information beside the info desk. At pre-registration you can select only three courses. From information board you will find an updated list of additional courses and excursions. Remember to check the board frequently during HSKG!

Accommodation happens in your own tent in the area assigned by HSKG. The fire safety distance between tents must be 5 meters, and we ask you not to use much more distance in order for everyone to fit in. In Hankoo, 2-4 kms away, there is a boarding house and a hotel if you prefer not to camp. See for details.

hskg_ruokaDuring the HSK Gathering there will be services provided by a coffee shop which also serves food. HSKG is arranging a festive dinner on Saturday night (included in your registration cost). Bring a gas burner or equivalent to cook your food on as open fires are not allowed during the event. HSKG will provide water, washing up facilities and garbage disposals. At a distance of about 15 minutes there are a variety of restaurants to be found.

Do not use the environment as a toilet; HSKG will provide earth privies.

Do bring a torch, as there is no electricity for the use of participants. If you are attending night paddling sessions, you need to bring a headlamp. Chemical lights for being seen by the group or equivalent is also needed for night paddling - lightsticks can be bought at the info desk.

hskg_kajakkiThe kayaks can be left on the shore at your own risk. HSKG will have ambulating guards around the clock but cannot accept responsibility for the participants’ private effects.
